Microblading

What is Microblading

Microblading is a manual hand held method of implanting pigment into the skin in fine ‘hairlike’ strokes. It is a semi-permanent tattooing technique.  The strokes are implanted into the upper layers of the dermis using high quality degradable pigment so over time the stokes will fade. Microblading is a 2 step process. After your initial appointment, a top up is required 6 weeks later. The results will last for 12-18 months. A yearly top up is required to keep the desired look.

The Treatment Process

A patch test and consultation is carried out at least 24 hours prior to the treatment.

At the appointment the therapist will spend time choosing the correct pigment to suit the clients skin tone and natural eyebrow colour. The next step is to draw on the eyebrows using a pencil. The therapist will work with the client to create the perfect eyebrows for their face shape and bone structure.

Once the pigment and shape has been chosen, then the microblading begins.

Small ‘hairlike’ incisions are made into the brows using a hand held tool that has a row of several fine needles. This is done in 3 stages.  At each stage more layers are added to mimic real hair strokes. Topical numbing cream is applied between each stage.

From start to finish the treatment takes around 2 hours.

 Pre Treatment Advise

  • Do not take aspirin, ibuprofen or Coumadin for 2 days before and 2 days after the treatment.

  • Avoid alcohol and caffeine prior to the treatment.

  • Any waxing should be performed at least 48 hours before the treatment.

  • Electrolysis no less than 5 days before treatment.

  • Products containing Alpha hydroxyl acid, and retinol should be avoided no less that 2 weeks prior to the treatment.

  • Chemical and laser peels no less than 6 weeks prior to treatment.

Aftercare Advice

Please remember that the colour is up to 50% darker immediately after the treatment and for the first few days. This is when the scabs form.

The after care is extremely important as this will determine the finished result. Please follow very carefully.

For the first 5 days

DO NOT touch or get the area wet under any circumstances. This is the dry healing time.

5 days after the treatment apply the coconut oil provided morning and night.

To do this melt the coconut oil in hot water then with a cotton pad dip it into the oil and using light circular motions rub over the brows. Repeat this every day until all the scabs are off. This could take up to a week depending on each individual client.

Important DO NOTS during the first 2 weeks after the treatment

  • DO NOT pick, peel or scratch the treated area. This may result in the colour healing unevenly and you could also risk scarring and infection. Allow the scabs to flake on their own.

  • DO NOT apply make-up over the treated area.

  • DO NOT expose the area to extreme heat, cold or moisture. This includes direct sun, tanning beds, Jacuzzis, saunas, salt water, swimming pools, direct shower spray.

  • To wash your face use a cloth or face wipes and be careful to wipe around the treated area.

  • Ideally get a family member or friend to wash your hair during the first 2 weeks.

Please be aware that the true healed colour will not come through until approximately 4-6 weeks after the initial treatment. During the healing process the colour may seem to have disappeared as it is obscured by the healing layers of skin. After the skin has completely healed you will notice the pigment reappear. The strokes will never be as crisp and dark as they look immediately after the treatment as they are now under layers of skin. The finished result is more subtle.

Long Term Care

  • In order to keep your permanent cosmetics in perfect condition it is advised to have a maintenance procedure every 12-18months. This will vary for each individual.

  • To avoid pigment fade for as long as possible, avoid excessive exposure to the sun or UV rays and use a good sunscreen.

  • Take care when using moisturisers and other skin products that contain glycolic or alpha hydroxyl acids. These can fade semi-permanent make up.

  • Please inform the Nation Blood Service if you donate blood as you may not be able to give blood for four months post procedure.

  • If you are planning having Botox, please be aware that this can alter the shape of your eyebrows.
